During this stage, the immune system is actually in good health, and therefore it is quite rare that patients in this phase suffer from symptoms secondary to HIV infection. While may factors may have an impact on the duration of this asymptomatic phase, the average duration of this period is described as anywhere from 5 to 7 years (sometimes more, sometimes less). There is a great of individual variability in the human response to HIV infection.
