    What about hepatitis B and the newborn?

    90% of infants who contract hepatitis B (HBV) from their mother with hepatitis B infection/carrier status will develop a chronic infection. Once again, it is critical that hepatitis B screening tests be done early on in pregnancy in order that the newborn may be vaccinated and thus escape infection from hepatitis B.
