    HIV Prevention

    March 1 2015

    Rapid HIV testing

Test results are available in one minute.

    Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP)

This treatment involves the administration of antiretrovirals for one month following sexual contact that carries a high risk of HIV infection. We recommend that you begin treatment as soon as possible, in the hours following sexual intercourse, or no later than 72 hours after the incident.

    Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP)

Prescription of antiretroviral treatments for the purpose of prevention.

The treatment consist in taking one pill once a day. This medication contains 2 antiretrovirals (the same agents used for treating people living with HIV) that block the virus’ replication cycle, preventing its multiplication in the blood and so the contamination of the organism.

The latest studies have shown that PrEP reduces the risk of HIV infection by 92%.

PrEP is a genuine preventive strategy in combination with the use of condom and regular testing.

This is a major step toward a comprehensive approach to prevention that reduces the risk of infection based on the level of risk, and that can break the chain of transmission for a complete eradication of HIV infections.

Screening for sexually transmitted infections (STIs)

If you are infected with an STI, whether or not you have symptoms, you are at a higher risk of contracting HIV.

    STBBI emergencies (with symptoms)

If you need treatment for a urinary tract infection, you can book a same-day appointment with a nurse when you call before 2:00 p.m.
