How do I relieve the symptoms of vaginitis?

For a summary of the measures you can take to help prevent recurrent vaginal infections, please click on the link.

Certain preventive measures have had varying degrees of success. These include adapting your clothing (wear only white cotton underwear containing no synthetic fibres, avoid tight clothing), modifying your diet (follow a Lactobacillus treatment), and altering your environment (change your soap, shampoo, bubble bath, etc.). See the list of environmental factors.

Trichomonas is a sexually transmitted infection, therefore measures to protect against it are the same as for other STIs.

    • Use a condom (female or male) whenever you have sexual relations.
    • Get tested regularly for STIs. Ask your doctor how often you should be tested.
    • Apart from abstinence, a sexual relationship with only one non-infected partner is also an effective way to avoid Trichomonas, as well as other STIs.

The condom remains the best way to prevent this infection and other STIs. Remember to use the condom correctly and at all times whenever you have sexual relations outside a monogamous relationship with one non-infected partner.
